Summary
Assists the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the selection, purchasing, and maintenance of Sentinel's tractor/trailer fleet, and collaborates closely with Safety, Regulatory, and Environment colleagues to ensure that Sentinel's fleet and equipment are in compliance to all state and federal standards and regulations. Oversees the design, training, execution, and monitoring of all maintenance policies, procedures, and programs. Conducts ongoing research into new and/or emerging approaches to purchasing and/or maintaining tractors, trailers, and other equipment. Maintains a keen awareness of trends within the transportation industry that could have an impact on Sentinel's fleet and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Works with the COO in establishing a short and long-term strategic plan for Sentinel's tractor/trailer fleet and other equipment, ensuring that it is aligned with Sentinel's overall strategy and operating goals, and annual budget as well as maintaining any regulatory (i.e. Advanced Clean Fleets) requirements.
- Ensures that the selection, purchasing, and maintenance of equipment is aligned with federal and state regulations, and that all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with established safety and regulatory standards.
- Communicates the strategic plan for equipment with Terminal Managers, Corporate and Field Safety Managers, and direct reports, keeping them up to date as to any modifications to the plan that would influence field-based operations, modifications to existing policies and/or procedures, etc.
- Directs the activities associated with the financing and/or the leasing of equipment and works with the Equipment Coordinator to ensure that all registration, contracting, accounting, tracking, and reporting activities related to Sentinel's fleet and equipment are accurate, timely, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provides expertise and advice and serves as a resource for Terminal Managers, Corporate and Field Safety Managers, and direct reports with regard to challenges, issues, and questions related to the operation and maintenance of Sentinel's tractor/trailer fleet and all other field-based equipment.
- Ensures that a range of training programs related to the maintenance and operating of Sentinel's fleet and equipment are designed and delivered to targeted employees. This includes executing training in a range of settings to ensure optimal learning (e.g., classroom, tutorials, "JIT") as well as the evaluation of the effectiveness of the training as it relates to the safety, reliability, and economy of Sentinel's fleet and field-based equipment.
- Conducts research and investigations into new and emerging trends related to the selection, purchase, and maintenance of tractors, trailers, and other equipment within the context of Sentinel's long-term strategies.
- Over sees all administrative and budgetary activities related to the maintenance and compliance of Sentinel's fleet and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the COO.
requirments | Skills and/or Experience
- Minimum of 10 or more years working experience in the transportation industry
- Previous experience in the purchasing and maintenance of transportation related equipment, including the management of relationships with equipment vendors and suppliers
- Demonstrated knowledge of FMCSA, DOT and other regulations related to the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products required
- Demonstrated expertise in the management of safety requirements, regulatory standards, operating procedures, and preventative maintenance protocols within the transportation or related industry
- Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in a range of settings, using a mix of verbal and written communication styles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required for the role
Requirments | Education / Certificate / License
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably within an area related to engineering, logistics, supply chain management, finance or related.
- ASE certification required.
- 10+ years of management experience
